Patrick's Diary - 5/7/2016

Naturally, I wasn't able to watch the first televised BPL match on Saturday morning because we had come back from AMC just two hours before it and I had fell into sleep until 7:00 PM. I learned that Newcastle didn't win the match to lift themselves out of relegation zone. It's a surprise to me, how much motivation did Aston Villa have to hold them back?
When I turned onto USA channel, Sunderland had equalized the match with Chelsea, eventually they even won the match after falling behind in the first half of which I didn't watch but learned the scores on a highlight. If they can win over Everton in next week, they will stay at BPL next season. That will be good for Yedlin, our Seattle homegrown left back, though I am an immigrant.
Leicester City winning BPL Championship was a fairy tale. I went to bathroom before it kicked off. Keeping the TV turned on in my bedroom, I heard Brocelli saying the famous Nessun Dorma. Was he invited to the stadium? I still don't know but the commentator sounded confirming it during the broadcast later, I didn't catch it exactly. Did the owner imply his son the Prince in Turandot? It's interesting. Anyway, the owner from Thailand was one of the big winners in this season. Actually, I just found this clip on Youtube, yes, Brocelli did sing it at the center stage in the stadium, and I was just reminded the coach a Italian, this might be a reason.
The match itself was dominated by the host. In the rain, they scored twice without too much resistance. The weather seemed turning beautiful when the celebrations started. The spontaneous ceremony was televised for hours but I didn't watch to the end.
After taking a break after dinner, I drove my son back to his dorm, my Dad also wanted to take a ride to enjoy the sunshine on the road. It's stunningly beautiful and the road was so congested because Seattlies probably rushed out of the houses to appreciate the Spring. The area around UW Campus was extremely crowded. On 45th Street, we could see cops directing the traffic at every block. Windermere Cup was held on Lake Washington, many spectators must come to cheer for the races earlier. I read on Seattletimes website later that UW teams won every category.
Before arriving at his dorm, I reminded my son to consult the counselors of Major selection. I of course still encouraged him to apply BA in Economics. First of all, he had taken all prerequisites and qualified except Writing Assessment he would need to take; Secondly, He should be able to nail an Internship down in business functions at many big companies in Seattle with such a major; Thirdly, I can help him be admitted into a PhD in Economics at several prestigious universities with the potential Nobel-Prize winning subject for his future researches. He definitely will consider it. However, he has been doing well in Psychology and also is interested in applying it. He hasn't taken all the prerequisites, which put him less advantageous compared to pursuing in Economics. He told me that he raised some good ideas in the class of Biology, which drew good attentions from the lecturer. When he told him just getting an average score in midterm, his lecturer seemed pretty disappointed. Yes, my son expresses himself well in the class, just like in Statistics class in last quarter, a group of classmates thought he was excellent, actually, some of those kids got better grades. My son's grade was good too but definitely not on top.

Dropping my Dad back home, I drove to gym to work out. It's relatively quiet there because I bet that most of the people went for outdoor activities. After one hour exercise, I drove back home under golden rays. It's a little bit hot again, but I had learned through weather report on the radio that it would be cloudy on Sunday. Mother's Day might need more sunshine but coolness would help control the temperature in Summer.
Watching Mariners playing Astros in Houston on TV from time to time, I switched to FOX to watch Sounders hosting Earthquake at 7: 00 PM when Mariners was leading 2 to 1 in bottom 8th. A gorgeous night always drew a huge crowd at Centurylink Field, I could tell more than 40,000 fans in the stadium. Sounders dominated the match from the beginning. Dempsey scored a classic goal in the first half and Morrison made his 4th goal at MLS before the end of the match.
I fell into sleep in the sofa in living room and never went back to my bedroom through the night...
