Patrick's Diary - 7/2/2015

Generally, people greet "Happy 4th" for our Independence Day, so when I said "Have a good 4th of July", it didn't ring the bell immediately. However, people do say:"Have a great 4th" pretty commonly as well.

Chatting with a gentleman about our trip back to Sweden, I mentioned that I did expect a sort of disappointments. He asked me why, I responded because I experienced all positive things 20 years ago and people might change over the course of these years in this more complex world. I raised an example to him that I went to Central Station in Goteborg to change my ticket to Stockholm to a later date. I asked a gentleman at the age of 60s where I could have it done, he led me to the specific window. While I was having my ticket reissued, he stood a couple of meters away watching until everything was settled, then left with smile on his face. I was wondering if this type of kindnesses still exists nowadays or not. 20 years ago, it happened to me almost everyday. The person I chatted with mentioned if I show my appreciations, I will still be treated as 20 years ago though the world has changed and people become more cautiously. He wanted me to share my experience with him after I come back. I definitely take his advice and would love to share.

It's been over 90 degrees today and pretty hot. I am not sure if it was the direct reason to driving multiple fires in Seattle as far as I could see on TV. I hope the rains can pour down through tonight but it looks like very clear with a full moon and countless stars all over the universe. I feel bad for the fireworks sellers around our area. The hot weather seems having impacted their sales.

Checking in online, we are ready to leave for Scandinavia. I am thinking from tonight, I am going to post Chinese version of my travel journal on my Chinese blog. Almost 10 years ago, I started writing about my experience in Sweden in Chinese on Sina.com. Back then, I didn't expect Americans would be interested in reading it because I wrote it from a Chinese perspective though I had been an American for quite a while. Since that story overall was fictional but a lot of detail was fact, I didn't want to spread it in the world closer to my life. This travel journal won't cause any concern, so I don't mind posting in both languages.
It is cool but I am sweaty. Tomorrow will be another hot day.
